Apple is trying to improve the controls on the macro mode, which is one of the most frustrating quirks of using the iPhone 13 Pro’s otherwise excellent cameras.

Better sensors, a Cinematic Mode, and a macro shooting function have all been added to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max’s trio of cameras. The latter makes amazing extreme close-up images with the enhanced ultrawide camera. However, it is not always simple to utilize.

The macro mode on the iPhone 13 Pro phones was configured to switch automatically when you moved the phone’s cameras close to an object when it was launched. While the photos it creates are excellent, getting the mode to trigger and operate properly without a janky shift is difficult; I recently experienced this with my iPhone 13 Pro.

With iOS 15.1 installed, you may turn off the “Auto Macro” feature in the Camera app settings. Toggling it when you needed it, though, required switching to the ultrawide camera and then zooming in on your subject, which was not an obvious process, especially for Apple.

However, according to 9to5Mac, the iOS 15.2 beta now has the ability to change macro mode within the camera app itself, rather than having to go into settings. I haven’t received the update yet, but it appears to be a no-brainer of a good change.

The Google Pixel 6 camera software, which is very tidy and easy to use, is one notable exception to Apple’s iPhone camera app being trivially easy to use and more intuitive than accessing some camera functions and modes in various Android phones. However, it appears that the attempt to make new functions more accessible has backfired in the instance of macro mode. At the very least, Apple is working to rectify the situation.

This may seem like a little change, but given that the iPhone 13 Pro models are at the top of our best camera phones list, it’s nice to know you’ll be able to use all of them without having to dig through settings menus.
