Why M.anifest Thinks Ghanaian Music Industry Is Trash

Rapper M.anifest has diagnosed three major problems the Ghanaian music industry is facing.

According to him, he usually sits back and tries to diagnose the problems of the music industry and upon his assessment, he found out that the industry is trash.

“The music industry is crap, it is trash it is absolutely treacherous, it is not consistent, it is not able to support itself,” he told Citi FM.

He noted that Ghanaian musicians are written off quickly and almost every year some artistes fizzle out of the system. “There is a clear infrastructure problem that makes revenue streams quite narrow so people are not making money from making music, there is lack of royalties from music and lastly the industry players are undervalued partly due to the fault of musicians,” he explained.

That notwithstanding, he said he was fortunate to have begun his career in the states where he registered with music right organisations that take care of profits he makes from his work.

A few months ago, he told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in an interview that he had not received a penny from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) as royalties since he started the music.

He said even though he has not registered with the South African Music Right Organisation (SAMRO) and UK’s Performing Rights Society (PRS), he gets royalties from them.

M.anifest will be releasing his latest single ‘Okay’ on Friday, 8th August 2018.
